Thumbs down 100,000 mile Hyundai warranty problem

I have a 1999 Hyundai Elantra with a 5-speed manual transmission. It grinds when downshifting to 1st gear. There is no other problem in any other gear upshifting or downshifting.
This is an obvious problem with the 1st gear synchro. This is covered under the warranty.

I took it to the dealer and they said I needed a new clutch and they would install for $900 +. This is not covered under the warranty (funniest thing).

I wrote the CEO of Hyundai who passed it on to their quality or complaint person who agreed with the dealership.

I feel I'm being ripped. I am also an engineer for a transmission company.

hyundai 100,000 warranty no good

i have 2000 hyundai elantra with 97,000 miles. the transmission is shot and hyundai says they can't tell if it's because of a manufacturer's defect. however, they denied the claim and told me it's not covered because they don't think i maintained the car properly because the interior is dirty. i have breast cancer and wasn't worried about cosmetics. however, the mechanic kept on top of all repairs.
