My husband is a cab driver making little money. He hadn't filed taxes in several years so we went to J.K. Harris to help us clear this up with the
IRS. We paid J. K. Harris monthly for a year, totaling $1,300 and have seen no results. We call and they just put us off. I'm a teacher and we just can't afford this type of loss. I recently found an article on line in the Wallstreet Journal that J.K.Harris has been raided by the Feds and that most of it's clients have the same problem we do. Is there anything we can do about this? |

In regards to the complaint, I would be happy to address this client's concerns if I knew who she was. With no name, number or other identifying information, I cannot find out who she is to help her. Maybe it would be helpful if people posting on your site are required to put their full names. A city or state would also be helpful. JK Harris and Company is the nations largest, and most successful, tax resolution company with over 32,000 active clients. Each one is important to us! We extend ourselves in whatever ways possible to address client problems. We strive to satisfy all of our clients and get them the relief they need from the Internal Revenue Service. Please post this reply so that this client will contact us. Once we know who she is and her
circumstances, then we will be able to help her. We have a Customer Service Center which operates 9a.m. until 10p.m., Monday through Friday, Eastern Standard Time. They can be reached toll-free at 888-610-8293. We also have a Problem Resolution Office dedicated to helping clients with critical needs issues or problems that cannot be resolved by our Customer Service Division. The PRO can be reached through Customer Service. Customer Service will refer the client to us if they are unable to resolve her issues. Thank you again for allowing JK Harris the opportunity to respond. We look forward to helping this client in the future. Best Regards, Monica Linder, Manager Problem Resolution Office |

Ms. Linder. What can you tell us about the raid on your corporate offices? Was it by the IRS, FBI or another agency?

I was informed of a garnishment of my wages (they allowed me 148.00 a week after they were done). So I contacted JK Harris. After months of waiting, and calling, being hung up on, never returning my calls, all during which the garnishment continued, and they took out $401.00 a month, I finally gave up, and went to the IRS office. Mind you, I paid JK Harris $1,500.00 which was most all of my savings). The IRS told me what I needed to do, and two days later I returned with the forms all filled out, 24 hours later the garnishment was removed. I called the bank and had the auto payment to JK Harris stopped based on the amount of money they agreed to and paid a stop payment fee. JK Harris then changed the amount thus getting another payment for a service they never performed.
These people are bogus, they say they will assist in removing garnishments, told me in front of a witness they would have it off in 24 hours (when 90 days passed without a single action). Their service can be done on your own for no money at all. |

I am going to sue them, that is for sure. I had one heck of a time with them ignoring me as well. I have proof that they fraudulently conveyed information to me regarding my case as active and "in-process" when I had a letter from previous months directly from the IRS stating that they had closed my offer in compromise. I notified them of my intention to sue, and they responded by saying they reviewed my case and cannot at this time refund my money. Oh well. My fee was $2,000 of which $1,800 was paid. I'd rather have larger returns from a jury trial anywany than just the $1,800. I would suggest you sue them in small claims court if you have a paper trail to prove you situation. I plan to sue them in State or Superior for megabucks. Best of luck to you. |

These people are a joke !!!!!! Anyone enlisting their services must be wanting to give there money away because they WILL NOT get anything in return but a lot of double talk.
They took me for over $5000 and the only thing I got from them was a letter telling me I wasn't eliable for a refund. For anyone that reads this check this out, they have around 300 offices, only 31 are listed with the better business and of those 31 only 7 have a satisfactory rating all the rest are unsatisfactory or the BBB has ask for information and they refused to provide it, I guess I see WHY. MAYBE EVERYONE THAT HAS GOTTEN SCREWED BY THESE PEOPLE SHOULD GET TOGETHER AND FILE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AND PUT THESE PEOPLE OUT OF BUSINESS. I guess my next thought on jk harris would be why would anyone want to enlist a company to deal with their tax problem when that same company is or was investigated by the IRS. Oh yes by the way Ms Linder ( if you happen to read this ) I can see by the reply you gave on this site you are still good at side stepping the real issue, do you have that many complaints that you don't know who is complaining??? |

I would like to add my message regarding JK Harris. I paid them $2,200 and received nothing and they told me my case was closed and they never did an offer-in-compromise and did not file the taxes that was sent to them. I ended up filing a year late along with penalties for that one year totalling $6,000 along with the other tax debt over $13,000. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I would like for the people who are in the same position as I am to get in touch with me at (410) 866-1552 so that we can discuss things to file a federal lawsuit against them for millions of dollars so that they will stop stealing from the people who are putting their trust in them. If I am not at home, leave your name and phone number and I will call you back. We have to stick together and come together because their is power and victory if we stick together and fight for what belongs to us. I did not have $2,200 to waste on them. I needed that money and they put me in further debt. I am tired of the situation. It is so stressful that it is ridiculous. They also ignored me and never called me back and it has now been 3 months and still no return phone call. I'M READY TO TAKE ACTION! ARE YOU?
By the way, if there is a lawyer who believes that we can win our cases, please contact me at the above number so that we can get started on suing JK Harris. |

They are complete thieves, pirates have not gone away. I am not going to sue them in Federal Court, just tortious acts in State Court. Can't afford attorneyk, must be my own.
My case was closed as well and even have letter from IRS to prove it. What state are you in. Don't expect a phone call at all. Do it in writing any way, cover yourself. |

I simply cannot understand why more people have not come forward with complaints against this company. When I worked there, there were so many letters coming in daily from the Better Business Bureau (how could the company possibly have a good rep with the BBB? impossible!!!) constant letters from Attorney General's offices (various states) investigating clients complaints and last but not least, the overwhelming number of refund requests. What a joke that is! Once you sign that contract, you're basically screwed..
I feel for each of you. Class act lawsuit? HELL YES!!!! |

This post is in response to the individual from J.K. Harris that claims there is a "Problem Resolution Team". This company is worse than a shady "out-of-towner" going door to door with vaccum cleaners. They advertise they are tax consultants and they are nothing more than salespeople with telemarketers answering their phones. This company is dangerous because they give out incorrect information and mislead individuals, thus making a bad situation a nightmare. I would challenge any attorney that feels he/she has a calling to represent people vs sharks (and is interested in law for the right reasons) to post a response. This company takes money and counts on hiding behind messages and mis-quoting their clients in their inadequate call tracking system. I can only hope my e-mail will hellp someone save money and continue their search for a company that actually has knowledge on tax problems. Don't be fooled !!!!!!!

I respect what you have to say, Sarah. I can personally, however, testify to the truth regarding the client/consumer complaints found within these postings. I am only surprised there are not more. As far as Mr. Kassells' business tactics, I can't respond because I do not know the man, nor have I ever done business with him. What I can say with a great deal of conviction; is that I believe in freedom of speech; especially when what is said is the absolute truth. The numerous consumer complaints that were on the taxes.com website, as well as the postings from ex-employees of JK Harris Company, were nothing more than the plain and simple truth.(a fact that had been the topic of discussion between myself and my co-workers many times over)I don't believe Mr. Kassell, or anyone for that matter, should be held liable for telling the truth.
Unfortunately, what you are reading on this website regarding JK Harris Company is the norm and not the exception. The question is- does anyone care enough to stop it before it happens to anyone else? Knowledge is power... |

I too, have been scammed by JK Harris to the tune of $5500. They could not even prepare my tax returns properly. Then they wouldn't even return my calls until I complained to the BBB. When I got a call from their "problem resolutions office", their contention was that it was my own fault. I was refused a request to talk to my case manager.. I cannot believe that they are still in business and it sickens me to see their ads and to know that others will suffer the same fate as me. I have hired a local CPA who is helping me and actually takes my calls personally if I have any questions. If I had stayed with JK Harris I would be in much worse trouble than I am. They broke every promise they made and I guarantee you the IRS is much easier to talk to than they are. I am presently pursuing every avenue to get my money returned, but I am less than optimistic. The BBB is supported by the businesses that are members, including JK Harris. Yet even the BBB's own web site says that of 136 complaints against JK Harris in the last three years, 111 of them have been in the last year!
I wonder if anyone has had success through the National Arbitration Forum which the BBB is now referring these cases to. I urge all who have been scammed to call or email local television consumer reporters, attorneys general and any other avenue that might put the pressure on this company to behave in a more ethical manner. I don't really understand Ms English's motivation here unless she was scammed by Steve Kassel or is a JK Harris employee. In any case the internet routing issue is a separate issue and has not been the point of this discussion. |

Thank you for responding with a wealth of information. This is the type of post I was hoping to read. (Although, I am sorry to hear that you continue to wait for a refund. I am just beginning the painful process!)
I am not sure what Ms. English intended with another "Steve, is that you?" post. Honestly it is such a contradiction that this person has been scammed by J.K. Harris and she sounds like a Harris cheerleader saying she knows "J.K. Harris will crush him in the following court case." Anyone that has had to endure the level of nonsense this company dishes out (and more seriously misrepresents themselves as professionals and cuts your tie with the IRS) would never come to their defense. I think I will take your advice and search locally for a support system. I would share the same piece of advice with Ms. English, however, she sounds as though she has had a change of heart regarding J.K. Harris. |
